UMI and HAVANA RAUL ROA GARCÍA Higher Institute Sign Partnership MOU
UMI and Havana Raul Roa García Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI) have signed an MOU to partner in among others delivering an International post graduate diploma in International relations at UMI. The partnership was signed by The Director General UMI Dr James Nkata and the Cuban Ambassador to Uganda Her Excellency Tania Perez Xiques.
The partnership is aimed at the two Institutions sharing skills and growing Human resources capacities in different fields of mutual need among the partners. Speaking at the signing Ceremony, the Director General UMI emphasised the lessons to be drawn from the resilience of the Cuban people and economy alongside quality of education Cuba offers. He said,” We admire the resilience of Cuba and we would like to take lessons from you. The lessons will be helpful to UMI as an Institution and generally Ugandans that will interface with us” The director General welcomed the ambassador and thanked her for her effort in ensuring that the MOU had been arrived at. Dr Nkata looks forward to a long fruitful relationship.
The ambassador on her part said the cooperation is only a start of Celebrations to mark a Golden Jubilee of Diplomatic relationship between Uganda and Cuba. She said the,” This MOU is part of a long bilateral relationship between Uganda and Cuba and it is not the project in itself, the Project are the continued people relations and sharing. I will ensure the relationship is an example and contribution to the 5oth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Uganda”
The cooperation is aimed at ensuring among others; Technical Cooperation to grow the relatively new area of Diplomacy and International Relations Management. There will be access to Scholarships in the reputable Cuban Institutions of Higher Learning focusing on Diplomacy and International Relations As well the partners will do Joint Research and organise international conferences. The will be an exploration of possibilities of Staff exchanges with relevant academic institutions in the Republic of Cuba. Finally the cooperation give support to access Books and other Instructional materials in Diplomacy and International Relations Management for all parties.
The parties in the cooperation will be obliged to participate in joint curriculum development and review processes at UMI and as well partner to enhance the capacity of diplomats and international relations actors. There will be collaboration in mobilizing resources to train students. The parties are charged to mobilize both financial and human resources necessary for implementation of the MoU and popularize the contents to different stakeholders.
