Uganda Prisons’ Pass Out Ceremony

The Uganda Prisons Service celebrated a notable achievement on May 9, 2025, as 60 officers successfully completed the Intermediate Command and Staff Course (ICSC) 2024-2025 at the Prisons Academy and Training School in Luzira by Uganda Management Institute. The graduation ceremony, officiated by Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs, marked a crucial step in the professionalization of the Prisons Service.
Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, commended the Prisons Service for fulfilling its mandate with excellence, highlighting that training remains a vital mechanism for maintaining high standards in service delivery. “I am glad that your affiliation with institutions such as Makerere University and UMI has enabled you to gain insight into key areas such as law, institutional management, and leadership,” he added. Gen. Muhoozi urged the graduands to apply their knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in their roles. He emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork, and striving for excellence in their work, noting that their output is critical to a peaceful and prosperous Uganda.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the graduating officers, the student representative expressed heartfelt gratitude to the facilitators, administrators, and institutional partners who supported their journey. She acknowledged the value of the course in broadening their understanding and equipping them with innovative solutions relevant to the Prisons mandate. “We are especially grateful to the President of the Prisons Authority, your contribution has enriched our learning journey” she added.
Mary Centenary, the Acting Commandant of the Prisons Academy, congratulated the graduands on completing the rigorous five-month course. She expressed to the graduands on how they have been equipped with the knowledge and skills required to support the implementation of the Prisons mandate. Affirming further, that “As an institution, we remain committed to conducting even more trainings of this nature.”
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Uganda Prisons Service, representatives from sister security agencies, and academic institutions including the Uganda Management Institute and Makerere University.
As the graduands assume their new roles, they carry with them the expectation to contribute meaningfully to the Uganda Prisons Service and the nation. With their enhanced skills and knowledge, they are poised to make a positive difference in the lives of inmates and the broader community.
The graduation ceremony serves as a testament to the Uganda Prisons Service’s dedication to professionalizing its ranks and improving service delivery. As the Service continues to invest in the development of its officers, it is well-positioned to address the complex challenges of modern corrections and contribute to a safer, more secure society.
