Educational Leadership Training for Secondary School Heads and their Deputies in West-Nile & Northern Uganda – USEEP

UMI is delivering Education Leadership and Management training on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Sports which is supported by the World Bank. Batch three was implemented in the Northern and Westnile regions districts of Pakwach, Maracha, Oyam, Koboko, Maracha, Nwoya, Zombo, Yumbe, Adjumani, Gulu City, Kitgum, Arua City, Lira City.
The Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP) targets underprivileged communities in specific areas with the goal of improving access to lower secondary education in Uganda. The project encompasses four components in total, but this training depends on the third component—improving teacher support and strategy development nationally—being delivered. Specifically addressing support for teachers with the goal of creating a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) system across the country.
Uganda Management Institute (UMI), which specializes in management training, consulting, and research, was contracted by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) to facilitate the capacity building of headteachers and deputy headteachers in the Educational Leadership and Management training program to support the project in achievement of the objectives under the sub-component where it lies.
The primary objective of the course was to train Secondary School Headteachers, and Deputy Headteachers, in government, government-aided and selected private secondary schools in Northern and West-Nile Regions of Uganda. The training was conducted to enhance educational experiences by giving secondary school administrators the expertise and competence they need to manage and lead the respective institutions.
In the Northern and Westnile Regions of Uganda, the training was delivered in 14 (Fourteen) Cluster Centers. The Cluster Centres included; Pakwach S.S, Otravu Secondary School, Iceme Girls Secondary School, St. Charles Lwanga-Koboko, Maracha S.S, Pope Paul VI S.S Anaka, St. Aloysius College Nyapea, Aringa Secondary School , St. Mary Assumpta Girls S.S, Sacred Heart S.S Gulu, Y.Y Okot Mem College,Mvara Secondary School, St. Katherine S.S, Lango College. The training in Western Uganda attracted a total of 870 participants of whom 398 were head teachers and 455 were deputy head teachers.
