CUUL Holds 24th Annual General Meeting @ UMI

1. Governance and Institutional Standards
One of the major topics discussed was the governance of CUUL and the adoption of standardized policies to ensure uniformity and efficiency across university libraries. The meeting reviewed the CUUL Standards for Libraries, which set the benchmarks for quality service delivery, infrastructure development, and professional capacity building. Additionally, ICT guidelines for libraries were tabled, emphasizing the integration of digital tools, automation, and electronic resources to modernize library operations.
2. How can we financially manage our resources in order to contribute to the sustainability and growth of the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL)?
The AGM extensively reviewed CUUL’s financial standing, with the Audit Report and the CUUL Annual Financial Report 2024 presented for consideration and adoption. Members discussed the financial health of the consortium, ensuring accountability and transparency in the utilization of funds. The Treasurer presented the CUUL work plan and budget for 2025, outlining funding priorities, cost management strategies, and opportunities for resource mobilization. A key focus was on securing long-term sustainability through strategic partnerships and grant applications.
3. Capacity Building and Professional Development
Recognizing the evolving role of university libraries in knowledge management, CUUL reaffirmed its commitment to continuous professional development for librarians and information specialists. Discussions centered on the need for specialized training programs, workshops, and exchange programs to equip librarians with emerging skills in digital archiving, research data management, and artificial intelligence in libraries.
4. Have we fully embraced technology integration and digital transformation in the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) to enhance service delivery and resource accessibility?
The role of technology in shaping modern libraries was a critical agenda item. Members examined strategies to enhance digital access to academic resources, including the adoption of open-access repositories, e-learning platforms, and shared digital libraries. The meeting underscored the importance of cyber security measures and data protection policies to safeguard library systems and users’ information.
5. Awards and Recognitions
To acknowledge outstanding contributions, CUUL presented awards to institutions and individuals who demonstrated excellence in library management, research support, and innovation. The recognitions aimed to motivate continuous improvement and knowledge sharing among member institutions.
6. Way Forward
The AGM concluded with a commitment to strengthening collaboration among university libraries, fostering knowledge-sharing networks, and advocating for policy reforms that support library development in Uganda. Resolutions from the meeting will guide CUUL’s strategic direction in the coming year, ensuring that university libraries remain at the forefront of academic excellence and research advancement.
