UMI and Uganda Prisons Service Launch 22-Day Leadership Training

UMI in partnership with the Uganda Prisons Service has launched a 22-day Institutional Leadership and Management training program for senior officers. The training, which kicked off at Uganda Prisons in Luzira, aims to equip participants with essential skills in leadership, strategic thinking, and institutional management.

The training brings together 58 senior officers, including 10 female and 48 male participants, from various prisons across the country. According to ACP Mary Centenary, Commandant of the Training School, the program is designed to mentor participants and equip them with practical skills to enhance their careers. She urged participants to take keen interest in the training and be ready to learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Dr. Kasozi S. Mulindwa, Director of Programs and Student Affairs at UMI representing the Director General, conveyed appreciation for the continued partnership between UMI and Uganda Prisons Service. He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to solve problems within and beyond their institutions. “It is a privilege to be selected for this program. The knowledge you acquire should not only benefit the Prisons Service but also you as individuals. Use what you’ve learned to solve problems both within and beyond your institutions.” He said.

Director Hillary Bisanga from the Human Resource Directorate of the Uganda Prisons Service emphasized the importance of internalizing leadership lessons and applying them immediately in their roles. He encouraged participants to take the course seriously and use the skills to lead successfully.

The training is expected to inspire improved decision-making, innovation, and accountability in institutional leadership. With expert facilitators from UMI, the program represents a deliberate effort to build transformative leadership across the Uganda Prisons Service.

The 22-day Institutional Leadership and Management training program is a significant step towards enhancing the leadership capacity of senior officers in the Uganda Prisons Service. With its focus on practical skills and transformative leadership, the program is expected to have a positive impact on the institution and beyond.
