The Uganda Management Institute (UMI) has reaffirmed its position as Uganda’s premier management development institution by partnering with key government bodies to champion the Area-Based Commodity Development (ABCD) Programme. The strategic alliance was formalized during the culmination of a nationwide co-operation session hosted at UMI’s Kampala Campus. Jointly introduced by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) and the Ministry of Local Government, the ABCD Programme aims to accelerate regional economic growth by capitalizing on localized commodity advantages across production, processing, marketing, and export.

Key highlights from the session

UMI’s Capacity Commitments: Representing the Director General, Dr. John Nakabago emphasized UMI’s capability as an academic and capacity-building powerhouse. Backed by its fully recognized Research Centre, UMI committed 100% institutional support and expertise to guarantee the programme’s success. He further highlighted UMI’s key role in building human capital for both public and private sectors.

Innovations in Data-Driven Growth: Moderated by UMI’s Professor Turyasingura, the session showcased MoFPED’s new ABCD Portal. This digital platform provides data-driven monitoring across 15 sub-regions to guide evidence-based investments and align local growth with Uganda’s target for 10-fold economic expansion.
