UMI Academic Staff held a Workshop on Research Supervision Enhancement

As UMI moves to being a research led Institute. the School of Business and Management organized an enhancing 3-day research workshop for supervisors to address specific research areas hence improving supervision skills for the Postgraduate students at UMI. The workshop, facilitated by Prof. Kabureka William and Prof. Laura A. Orobia, aimed to address specific research areas and improve the quality of research output produced by our participants, and the faculty members.

The Uganda Management Institute (UMI) School of Business Management recently organized a 3-day research workshop for academic staff, focusing on enhancing research supervision skills for postgraduate students. The workshop covered several critical areas, including:

  1. Defining the Supervisor’s Role: Expectations, responsibilities, and boundaries;
  2. Research Ethics and Integrity: Ensuring academic integrity in postgraduate supervision;
  3. Fostering Publication and Research Dissemination Skills: Encouraging research output and dissemination;
  4. Research Design: Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches;
  5. Writing Research Objectives: Crafting clear and focused objectives;
  6. Questionnaire Design: Linking questionnaire design to conceptual frameworks;
  7. Conceptual Framework: Connecting conceptual frameworks to research objectives and data analysis;
  8. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Effective analysis and interpretation of research data.

The workshop aimed to equip academic staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively supervise postgraduate students. By enhancing research supervision skills, UMI seeks to improve the quality of research output and better support students in their academic pursuits.
