Services at UMI


UMI faculty have a wealth of professional skills and experience in consultancy work for client organizations in Public, Private and NGO's sectors. Our consultants offer technical support to clients on request and consulting services are in the fields of:

  • Training in performance improvement management courses;
  • Project design and management;
  • Strategic and corporate planning;
  • Organizational re-engineering and development;
  • Recruitment and employee mentoring;
  • Procurement and contract management;
  • Organizational capacity assessment and reforms;
  • Development of ITC based solutions;
  • Policy development and evaluations.

To ensure that consultancies are carried out with the highest degree of competence, UMI has standing arrangements with highly experienced practitioners in other institutions and has developed effective quality assurance mechanisms that are reviewed from time to time. Annex 3 shows a list of some consultancies done is attached for reference.

Capacity Building & Training Services

UMI aims at strengthening the management and institutional capacity of Public, Private and Civil Society sectors through a broad range of programs for middle, senior and executive level managers. Programmes offered by the institute include short (customized), Ordinary diploma, postgraduate diploma, masters degree courses and PhD programmes. The capacity building and training sessions are designed on both a short-term and long-term basis to cater and fit within the time frames of the targeted audiences. All courses have a strong practice-oriented approach to enable participants improve their performance and that of their organizations.

Over 45 Prospectus Short Courses are offered that are conducted at the branches in time periods ranging from 2 days to a maximum of 2 weeks as well as Tailor-Made courses that are designed to solve clients’ specific challenges. The areas of focus include; Leadership and General Management; Marketing and Communications, Procurement, Financial Accounting and Management, ICT, Public Administration and Governance of organisations. Annex 1 shows a list prospectus short courses offered.
UMI poses a lot of experience to share with its clientele in the fields of General Management, Public Administration, Business & Financial Management as well as Human Resource Management.  UMI offers day, weekend and evening course. The sessions during discussion/ application with/ to participants adopt day-to-day case studies to present practical and applicable learning examples. The institute has customized courses but is flexible to designing tailor made courses to its clientele.

UMI maintains its overall objective of providing services to clients in the public and private sectors as well as the non-governmental organisations. The Institute has in the previous past exported its services to the public sector in the neighboring countries.
