The School of Management Science was created on July 1, 2013 from the Higher Degrees Department (HDD). According to The Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, (2001) as amended (2006), UMI is categorized as an “Other Degree Awarding Institution”. In order to carry out its mandate of offering academic degrees, the School of Management Science is responsible for handling all the academic degrees, both at Masters and PhD level. The School is run under three departments, i.e. Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Department of Political and Administrative Science, and the Department of Economics and Managerial Science

Vision

SMS envisions itself as a leading provider of management capacity at Masters and PhD levels.

Mission

To excel in the providing practical and sustainable capacity in Educational Leadership, Political, Administrative and Economic Management for public, NGO and private sector managers.

Mandate:

In order to carry out the mandate of offering academic degrees, this School is responsible for handling all the academic degrees, both at Maters and PhD level. The School of Management Science prepares participants to lead people, think strategically, and create successful private and public organizational environments. The schools major focus is providing participants with competence - based education necessary to manage dynamic organizations and creating critical, analytical but yet creative thinkers.

  • To provide quality training in education leadership, political, administrative and economic management
  • Promote community engagement in school activities
  • To promote the research skills and function for its staff, as well as public, NGO and private. sector managers.
  • Promote consultancy in the field of administration, leadership and management.
  • Enhance sustainability of its mandate to stand the test of time.
