Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe

Bart M. Katureebe is a co-founder of Praxis Conflict Centre where he is an Arbitrator and Mediator and is the Chief Justice Emeritus of the Republic of Uganda from 2015-2020. He began his career as a State attorney at the Attorney Generals Chambers in 1975, having completed his LLB and Diploma in Legal Practice in Makerere University and Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda. He rose to the rank of Principal State Attorney. In 1993 he went into private legal practice for five years before being appointed as a Government Minister in 1988, where he held various portfolios including the Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

In 2001, after his service in Government, he went back to private legal practice until 2005 when he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda. In 2015 he was appointed the Chief Justice of the Republic of Uganda, a position he held until his retirement in June 2020.

Since his retirement, he has been appointed a Member of the Committee of Experts of the International Commercial Court of China. He is also a member of the London based Steering Committee of the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts. He is currently the Chancellor, Uganda Management Institute.
