RATIONALE:
Information is a key resource in decision making. Information systems provide an effective and efficient means of
collecting, processing, analysing and disseminating information. Automated information systems and databases
have become popular in processing and communicating timely, accurate and reliable information. The course aims
at developing knowledge and skills in using Ms-Access and MySQL for data processing and timely management of
information.

TARGET GROUP:
Records and Information Officers, Librarians, Administrative Assistants, fleet/transport managers, Estates managers,
Stores and Inventory Controls officers and any persons involved in data processing.
Prerequisite: Applicants must have basic working knowledge of microcomputer applications.

OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Identify information Systems Components
Describe the information system development process
Design an information system process using data flow diagrams
Design a security framework for an information system
Create a database using Ms-Access and MySQL
Create queries in Ms-Access and MySQL
Generate database reports
