Director General, Management and Staff UMI
Ladies and Gentlemen
Hon. Prime Minister, this is the second time you have honored our invitation to be the Chief Guest to our graduation ceremony. It is therefore, my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to Uganda Management Institute (UMI) to attend the 17th graduation ceremony as part of the Institute’s Golden Jubilee cerebrations.
Last year, His Excellency the President, hosted us at State House Entebbe. He advised that to make UMI graduates more relevant to national challenges and current job market, our programmes should be reviewed. His guidance was taken seriously by the Governing Council and Management. A concept paper to implement his advice was developed and forwarded to his office for further guidance.
To all our invited guests, we thank you for taking off time to grace this occasion with your presence. In a special way I welcome all Graduands especially from the Outreach Centres of Gulu, Mbale and Mbarara. You are all most welcome to the Kampala Campus especially at this occasion.
Today is a special day as UMI celebrates three major events; i) the Golden Jubilee of UMI ii) Commissioning of the office and classroom block and iii) graduation of 3,021 Participants including three graduands to be awarded PhDs.
Hon. Prime Minister and guests, what we are witnessing today are the fruits of numerous contributions and sacrifices over the last 50 years by the Government of Uganda, development partners, organizations and various individuals.
In a special way, I thank the Governing and Management team for their outstanding work at UMI.
I salute the Government for the contributions and support to make UMI what it is today.
To the 3,021 Graduands:
Dear Graduands, you are the subject of this assembly, and indeed, you are the key celebrants of the Golden Jubilee of UMI, 2019. You are all part of the history of the Institute and witnesses of UMI success and achievements. You have faced some of her challenges and participated in solving them.
We all congratulate and thank you for your role in UMI endeavors as participants.
The development and changes government is spearheading require skilled Leaders, Managers and Administrators with the qualifications you have all attained in various disciplines at UMI. Let nothing divert your attention and energy from executing your duties and fulfilling your assigned responsibilities with a high degree of professionalism and following acceptable work ethics.
Restrain yourselves from getting into corrupting modes of work which not only ruin your professional and service integrity, but also cheat the beneficiaries of your services, and puts UMI into disrepute.
Avoid giving and applying text book answers and methods to real community or organizational issues and situations where you will be employed as Managers, Leaders and Administrators.
I wish to specially congratulate the students from UMI Centre for Professional Courses who are now members of the Certified Institute of Logistics and Transport of United Kingdom.
Finally, the God given gift of life, combined with the knowledge and skills you have acquired from the training at UMI, “go and excel” to sustain the Institute’s Legacy. Your success will be our success!
May God bless all of you who have contributed to the success of this day. I wish all of you a festive and joyous day and journey mercies as you return to your respective homes.
I thank you.
For God and My Country.
HON. GERARD NAMIREMBE BITAMAZIRE
