Distance Learning Department

DL Department The Distance Learning Department (DLD) whose mandate is to manage all Distance/E-learning programmes at Uganda Management Institute offer two post graduate diplomas; using a blended learning approach (print and online). The distance/E-learning programmes aim at enabling participants to acquire knowledge and skills at their convenience, anywhere without coming to classrooms.

Program Structure: The program Duration is two academic years (four Semesters) and comprises of fourteen (14) modules. Participants take three modules per semester. The program comprises of; one week face – to – face orientation session, one online discussion forum, five months self-study with guided tutorials and one week for examinations per semester.

Target Group: The program is designed for senior and middle level government officials, development managers and other officials covering development work, as well as those that are managing sustainable and people-centred development programs and organisations, who are not able to attend full time or weekend programs at UMI for one reason or the other.

Admission requirements: University degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution with a minimum of two years working experience. Admissions are open throughout the year and the cohort starts in October every year

Tuition Fees: Each admitted participant is required to pay tuition fees of Ugandan Shs. 2,400,000 or US Dollar $1784 for non-Ugandans. The Department also runs video conference and blended (video conference and online) mode short courses in collaboration with partners like Association of African Distance Learning Centres (AADLC) which has centres around Africa and the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) which has Centres around the world.   • Project Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Managing the 21st Century Local Authorities
  • Microfinance Training of Trainers
  • Finance for Non-Finance Managers
  • Critical Skills for Top Managers
  • Leadership Dynamics for Senior Women Managers
  • Fraud Investigation & Prevention
  • A Practical Training Course on Public Private Partnerships (PPP)
  • Policy Formulation, Implementation and Analysis
  • Combating Corruption in Procurement Course

Other services provided at the Department, which can be hired by the public, include:

  • Video conferencing (for international job interviews, meetings, etc)
  • Teleconferencing and Skype
  • Conference suite for seminars, conferences, workshops and meetings
  • Multimedia computer labs with high speed internet connectivity
